On Wednesday, the NFL released the schedule for the 2019 regular season. The entire schedule can be seen on CBSSports.com.
Picking just one intriguing matchup per week is far from easy. Many of the weeks in the NFL season provide plenty of games that could play a pivotal role in how the playoffs shape up. As a subjective list, there will be differing opinions as to which game is the most intriguing each week. A lot can occur before the later weeks of the season arrive, so a game that may look important now could turn out to not be the case once the game takes place.
Week 1 - Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots, Sunday Night Football 9/8
New England will see their sixth Super Bowl banner raised to open the season. That is tied for the most Super Bowl wins with their Week 1 opponent, the Steelers.
Week 2 - New Orleans Saints at Los Angeles Rams, Sunday 9/15
This is a rematch from last season's NFC Championship Game. This time around, the Saints can challenge a blatant pass interference that isn't called.
Week 3 - Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday 9/22
Baltimore has to hope Lamar Jackson can have the same kind of effect in his first full-year starting as Patrick Mahomes did last season for Kansas City.
Week 4 - Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens, Sunday 9/29
Two teams expected to challenge for the AFC North title, the game also feature two high-profile second-year quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson.
Week 5 - Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday Night Football 9/29
The Colts had a much-improved defense last season, but they will be in for a true test in Week 5 going against the high-octane offense of the Chiefs.
Week 6 - Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday 10/13
Three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt will look to add to his career sack total against the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes.
Week 7 - New Orleans Saints at Chicago Bears, Sunday 10/20
Both teams were winners of their division last season. New Orleans finished third in scoring averaging 31.5 points per game while Chicago had the top-ranked scoring defense at 17.7 points allowed per contest.
Week 8 - Cleveland Browns at New England Patriots, Sunday 10/27
Many people believe the Browns can be a true contender despite not reaching the playoffs since the 2002 season. A road game against the Patriots around the midway point of the regular season will be a litmus test for them.
Week 9 - Chicago Bears at Philadelphia Eagles, Sunday 11/3
These two teams met in last season's playoffs. This time around, the Bears and their fans won't have to worry about Cody Parkey missing a game-winning field goal try.
Week 10 - Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers, Monday Night Football 11/11
Russell Wilson is now the league's highest-paid player. If this game is meaningful for San Francisco, it likely means that Jimmy Garoppolo has stayed healthy.
Week 11 - Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers, Monday Night Football 11/18
These two teams tied atop the AFC West last season with 12-4 records, but the Chiefs took the division crown via tiebreaker. Sports Betting Dime lists Kansas City at -200 and Los Angeles at +250 to win the AFC West this season.
Week 12 - Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans, Thursday Night Football, 11/21
While the Texans won the AFC South last season over Indianapolis, the Colts got the last laugh with a 21-7 win over Houston in the opening round of the playoffs.
Week 13 - Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday 12/1
Will the Steelers still be in postseason contention in the post-Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell era? Will the Browns be challenging for the AFC North title, or will personalities such as Odell Beckham Jr. create some turmoil?
Week 14 - Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots, Sunday 12/8
The AFC Championship Game last season turned out to epic between these two teams. The Patriots won the high-scoring affair by the score of 37-31.
Week 15 - Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers, Sunday 12/15
The Packers, a franchise who only accepts excellence, has missed the playoffs two straight seasons. Aaron Rodgers and the team hope this game has meaning against the Bears, winners of the NFC North last season.
Week 16 - Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles, Sunday 12/22
These two teams have combined to win the NFC East each of the last three seasons (Dallas in 2017, Philadelphia in 2016 and 2018). Can this game help decide who wins the division this season?
Week 17 - Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday 12/29
Will Patrick Mahomes be looking to solidify a possible second-straight MVP season? Or will the Chargers be in line to win their AFC West title since the 2009 season?
