After looking at the best recent draft picks for 21 different teams, it's now time to look at the Texans who have the 23rd overall pick in this month's draft. Charles Davis of NFL.com has them selecting offensive tackle Cody Ford out of Oklahoma with that pick.
The Texans franchise began in 2002, and they have made the postseason five times since beginning play (all coming since the 2011 season). They have reached the playoffs in three of the last four years, and many of the players on this list helped them get there.
Note: Only time with the Texans is considered for the list. Where they were drafted makes a difference - meaning this isn't exactly a top-ten players drafted by Houston in franchise history list. Some late-round draft picks that didn't quite make the list but had solid careers include Domanick Williams (fourth round, 2003), Glover Quin (fourth round, 2009), Derek Newton (seventh round, 2011), Ben Jones (fourth round, 2012), Jared Crick (fourth round, 2012), Ryan Griffin (sixth round, 2013), Alfred Blue (sixth round, 2014), Andre Hal (seventh round, 2014), and D.J. Reader (sixth round, 2016).
J.J. Watt, DE - 1st round, 11th overall (2011); time with Texans: 2011-present
Only two players in the history of the NFL have been named Defensive Player of the Year three times: Lawrence Taylor and Watt. He has led the league in sacks twice and has 92 thus far already in his career. The Houston Chronicle mentioned how the Texans are more at peace knowing that Watt does not have to rehab an injury this offseason.
Andre Johnson, WR - 1st round, 3rd overall (2003); time with Texans: 2003-2014
A seven-time Pro Bowler in his 12 seasons with Houston, Johnson twice led the NFL in receptions and twice as well in receiving yards. Altogether with the team, he totaled 1,012 catches for 13,597 yards and 77 touchdowns.
