After looking at the best recent draft picks for 23 different teams, it's now time to look at the Colts who have the 26th overall pick in this month's draft. Sean Wagner-McGough of NFL.com has them selecting defensive tackle Christian Wilkins out of Clemson with that pick.
The Colts have made the playoffs 14 times since 2000, and in that time, they have made two Super Bowls (won in the 2006 season). Six of the 10 to make this list were on that championship-winning team.
Note: Only time with the Colts is considered for this list. Where they were drafted makes a difference - meaning this isn't exactly a Top-Ten Players Drafted By Indianapolis Since 2000 list. Some late-round draft picks that didn't quite make the list but had solid careers include Ryan Diem (fourth round, 2001), Rick DeMulling (seventh round, 2001), David Thornton (fourth round, 2002), Cato June (sixth round, 2003), Jake Scott (fifth round, 2004), Charlie Johnson (sixth round, 2006), Pierre Garcon (sixth round, 2008), Pat McAfee (seventh round, 2009), Joe Haeg (fifth round, 2016), and Marlon Mack (fourth round, 2017).
Reggie Wayne, WR - 1st round, 30th overall (2001); time with Colts: 2001-2014
Spending his entire 14-year career with the Colts, Wayne ranks 10th all-time in both receptions (1,070) and receiving yards (14,345). The six-time Pro Bowler had four seasons of at least 100 catches and eight with over 1,000 yards.
Dwight Freeney, DE - 1st round, 11th overall (2002); time with Colts: 2002-2012
Seven times in Freeney's 11 seasons with Indianapolis, he recorded at least 10 sacks. During his tenure with the Colts, he made seven Pro Bowls, three First Team All-Pro teams, and had 107.5 sacks.
Andrew Luck, QB - 1st round, 1st overall (2012); time with Colts: 2012-present
Owning a 53-33 record as a starting quarterback, Luck was named Comeback Player of the Year last year after missing the entire 2017 season. For his career, he has thrown for 23,671 yards and 171 touchdowns. He recently spoke with GQ about his diet which has helped him recover from shoulder surgery.
Robert Mathis, DE - 5th round, 138th overall (2003); time with Colts: 2003-2016
Mathis is the franchise's all-time sack leader with 123. He made five Pro Bowls with the team and was a First Team All-Pro in 2013 when he had a league-leading 19.5 sacks.
T.Y. Hilton, WR - 3rd round, 92nd overall (2012); time with Colts: 2012-present
Hilton went four straight seasons surpassing the 1,000 yard mark from 2013-2016, and he did so again last season. Altogether, he has totaled 507 catches for 8,097 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Antoine Bethea, S - 6th round, 207th overall (2006); time with Colts: 2006-2013
A late-round gem, Bethea was named to the Pro Bowl in both the 2007 and 2009 seasons. In five different seasons for Indianapolis, he had over 100 tackles.
Dallas Clark, TE - 1st round, 24th overall (2003); time with Colts: 2003-2011
During his tenure with the Colts, Clark was one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the league. The 2009 First Team All-Pro caught 427 balls for 4,887 yards and 46 touchdowns with Indianapolis.
Bob Sanders, S - 2nd round, 44th overall (2004); time with Colts: 2004-2010
The 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, Sanders would likely be much higher on this list had injuries not derailed his career. He only played in 48 games for the Colts over seven years.
Darius Leonard, LB - 2nd round, 36th overall (2018); time with Colts: 2018-present
Not only was Leonard named Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, he was also named a First Team All-Pro. His 163 tackles led the NFL.
