While the Browns have gone through some awful times, Joe Thomas was a draft pick they could be proud of selecting.

After looking at the best recent draft picks for 28 teams, it’s now time to look at the Browns, who have the 49th pick (traded their first-round choice in order to acquire Odell Beckham Jr.). Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has them selecting safety Johnathan Abram out of Mississippi State with that pick.

The Browns’ struggles in the 21st century have been well-documented. They have only made the playoffs once since 2000, and they won a combined one game between the 2016 and 2017 seasons. During that time, though, they did draft one surefire Hall of Famer, and two recent number one picks have the potential to be the same.

Note: Only time with the Browns is considered for this list. Where they were drafted makes a difference - meaning this is not a top 10 list of players drafted by Cleveland. Players such as Denzel award and Nick Chubb likely will be included here after another season or two of productivity. Some late-round draft picks that didn’t quite make the list but had solid careers with the team include Buster Skrine (fifth round, 2011) and Travis Benjamin (fourth round, 2012).

1

Joe Thomas, OT - first round, third overall (2007); time with Browns: 2007-2017

A likely future first-ballot Hall of Famer, Thomas was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first 10 seasons. He was a six-time First Team All-Pro and started 167 games at left tackle in his career.

2

Alex Mack, C - first round, 21st overall (2009); time with Browns: 2009-2015

Mack started all 16 games at center in six of his seven years with Cleveland. He made three Pro Bowls as a member of the team.

3

Joe Haden, CB - first round, seventh overall (2010); time with Browns: 2010-2016

A back-to-back Pro Bowler in 2013 and 2014, Haden started 81 games for the Browns. He intercepted 19 passes in his seven seasons with Cleveland.

4

Andra Davis, LB - fifth round, 141st overall (2002); time with Browns: 2002-2008

In three seasons with the team, Davis recorded over 100 tackles including a career-high 149 in 2005. He picked off eight passes and had 8.5 sacks for the Browns.

5

D'Qwell Jackson - second round, 34th overall (2006); time with Browns: 2006-2013

A tackling machine, Jackson led the NFL with 154 in 2008. In five of seven years with Cleveland, he had at least 100 (missed 2010 season with injury).

6

Myles Garrett, DE - first round, first overall (2017); time with Browns: 2017-present

With only two seasons under his belt, Garrett can move up this list in the upcoming seasons. He has 20.5 sacks in his first career 27 games.

7

Baker Mayfield, QB - first round, first overall (2018); time with Browns: 2018-present

Much like Garrett, Mayfield will move up this list rather quickly. HIs 2018 season saw him set a new rookie-record with 27 touchdown passes. The Browns' website mentions how the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. will help him even further this year.

8

Ahtyba Rubin, DT - sixth round, 190th overall (2008); time with Browns: 2008-2014

Quite the late-round find, Rubin started 75 games for the Browns. An excellent run-stopper, he had two seasons with over 80 tackles.

9

Joe Schobert, LB - fourth round, 99th overall (2016); time with Browns: 2016-present

In the last two seasons, Schubert has 247 tackles, six sacks, and two interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl in the 2017 season.

10

Joel Bitonio, G - second round, 35th overall (2014); time with Browns: 2014-present

Bitonio started all 16 games in his rookie season and has remained Cleveland's starting left guard since. He was named to the Pro Bowl last season.
