Every year, many players and teams disappoint their fans by having a bad season or missing the playoffs. It's especially bad when players or teams have high expectations coming into the season but fail to live up to the expectations that were set out for them. Below are some players and teams that disappointed fans this NBA season.
Los Angeles Lakers
Easily the biggest disappointment this season, as in their first year with LeBron, the Lakers failed to do much. The Lakers finished with a 37-45 record and finished 11 games out of a playoff spot. Throughout the season, they dealt with a lot of injuries and also made horrible trade deadline moves that included trading promising young center Ivica Zubac to the Clippers. Also, Magic Johnson announced that he is stepping down from his role with the Lakers, which makes things even more of a mess.
Boston Celtics
Despite the fact that they made the playoffs, the Celtics are still considered a disappointment this season. Many people expected the Celtics to be the best team in the East this season, but they ended up finishing fourth. Throughout the season, the Celtics had team chemistry issues that effected their on court performance.
Gordon Hayward
A year after suffering from a horrific injury, everyone thought that a full season of rest would help Hayward get back to his All-Star form, or at least close to it. Hayward performed nowhere near all-star caliber as he averaged 11.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. With a deep roster that the Celtics had, Hayward saw himself come off the bench most of the time.
Draymond Green
Green took a step back this season compared to his 2017-18 season. This season, he averaged 7.4 points, 6.9 assists, and 7.3 rebounds, whereas in 2017-18, he averaged 11 points, 7.3 assists, and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Washington Wizards
After making the playoffs last season, the Wizards found themselves finishing in eleventh with a 32-50 record. They finished nine games back of a playoff spot and dealt with injuries that resulted in lengthy absences for Wall and Howard, with Wall not expected to be back until March.
