In September last year, the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, announced the beginning of phasing out single-use plastics, Thethings.com reported. The banning of plastic shopping bags will take one year to fully implement. Retailers failing to comply will face fines of up to UD$66,000.

New Zealand is hugely down on smoking tobacco products. In November 2018, Stuff NZ reported that they were extending it to a proposed ban on "vaping in bars, restaurants, schools and workplaces in New Zealand."

New Zealand bans Huawei equipment in 5G upgrades

In February this year, ABC NET AU reported that Chinese tourists were boycotting New Zealand after they banned the use of Huawei equipment. The mobile company Sparks was not allowed to use any of their technology in their 5D upgrades. The New Zealand Tourism board indicates that Chinese tourists are the second largest group of visitors in the tourism sector in the country. According to the Guardian, “a significant network security risk was identified," the director of GCSB said.

Ban on foreigners buying property in New Zealand

A ban on foreigners owning property in the country was reported by CNBC in August last year. However, permanent residents living in the country, Singaporeans, and Australians can buy property. The Prime Minister explained that the move was to stop runaway property prices as wealthy people around the world bought land as an investment.

Tail docking ban for cows and dogs

Live Kindly reported in September last year, that the country banned docking the tails of cows and dogs. The dairy owners liked to dock cows. Some dogs are docked just because it's fashionable to do so. Both of these practices are now banned in the country. They also reported that "Cattle disbudding, the removal of horn buds in calves, and dehorning without pain relief will also be prohibited under the new 45 regulations, which will be implemented in October."

Radio stations ban Michael Jackson music

After the screening of HBO's 'Leaving Neverland' documentary, radio stations voluntarily banned his music. Two of the largest commercial stations, MediaWorks and NZME, felt that people would not want to listen to him anymore, Daily Telegraph reported. The documentary alleged that Jackson abused children.
