Coaching vacancies are filling up quickly across the National Football League. Teams are taking a gamble by hiring some with no experience, while others are sticking with veteran coaches like Bruce Arians in Tampa. These are five of the best coach hirings made this year.
Freddie Kitchens - Cleveland Browns
Cleveland has become the team who hired the best coach out there. Freddie Kitchens will now reunite with Baker Mayfield. The pair worked together as offensive coordinator and quarterback. However, Kitchens comes with no experience as a head coach. Kitchens is taking the reins of a young and strong team, with plenty of cap room to make changes.
Matt LaFleur - Green Bay Packers
Probably the favorite coaching opportunity out there was with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers settled on Sean McVay associate Matt LaFleur. LaFleur has experience working with high-powered offenses but has had no opportunity to run them himself. LaFleur should get along with Aaron Rodgers, who many believe signed off on this hire.
Bruce Arians - Tampa Bay Bucs
Surprisingly the Tampa Bay Buccaneers managed to draw Bruce Arians out of retirement, which was definitely the right move. The Bucs need a strong coach with experience, a rookie would have continued to run a team that struggles. Arians has become known for developing quarterbacks, and there's hope he can develop Jameis Winston, who appears to be on a short leash now.
Kliff Kingsbury - Arizona Cardinals
Arizona has settled on USC's Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury has become successful at developing quarterbacks, meaning Josh Rosen can get better with his help. However, Kingsbury's lackluster defensive work means he's going to need a proper defensive coordinator.
Vic Fangio - Denver Broncos
One of the last coaching hires in the NFL was Vic Fangio by the Denver Broncos. Fangio performed well as a DC with the Eagles. Fangio is keeping Gary Kubiak on staff. Fangio needs to focus on upgrading the offense and developing the quarterback. However, Fangio faces a tough battle in bringing positive results, meaning he could be the first new coach fired next season.
