At first glance, the lawsuit filed by the DNC against the Trump for President Campaign, the Russian government, and Wikileaks alleging that they conspired to influence the 2016 election and hand the presidency to Donald Trump seems insane. However, there is a method to the madness of litigating a Conspiracy Theory. First, the suit forces the named defendants to respond. Second, it keeps the story of Russian collusion alive even as the very investigations continue to find no evidence.

Even if the judge, after due consideration, throws the suit out, the point will have been made.

However, an example will have also been made that other conspiracy theorists will follow. What other conspiracy theory suits could reach a courtroom? Where is Art Bell when we need him? We’ll leave out the holocaust was faked one because even though the BDS movement might sue Israel on that basis, some things are too obnoxious to talk about.

Everybody killed JFK

One of the oldies but goodies is the idea that President John F. Kennedy was killed as a result of a vast conspiracy that included almost everybody in the government and corporate America at the time.

The moon landings were faked

Another classic conspiracy theory is the one that has the moon landings faked inside a studio. One could imagine someone suing NASA, perhaps the estate of Stanley Kubrick, and certainly Buzz Aldrin, who once put a moon landing hoax theorist on the deck for pawing at and badgering him.

The trial would be a fun one because the original "Mythbusters," who once dedicated a whole show to the subject, could be reunited to testify in open court.

9/11 was an inside job

The idea that the destruction of the World Trade Center was accomplished by controlled explosions and not by annoyed Muslims flying airplanes is a strange one.

Most of the planet has seen the footage of the airliners hitting the buildings. Perhaps Randa Jarrar, the English professor who celebrated the death of Barbara Bush, could file this one along with Cindy Sheehan.

Aliens landed at Roswell

Movies and TV shows have been devoted to the notion that aliens crash-landed in Roswell, New Mexico and that the government covered it up.

Besides naming the United States military and the government as plaintiffs, some enterprising conspiracy theorist could also name the aliens. Who and what are the aliens? That question would naturally be answered during discovery. Mulder and Scully could be hired to undertake the investigation. At last the truth that is out there will become known.
