Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg has expressed excitement following a decision by the outgoing CEO of American Express Kenneth Irvine Chenault to join facebook’s Board Of Directors. Zuckerberg revealed the news of Chenault’s resolve to join Facebook Inc's top decision-making team through a post on his official Facebook page on January 18, 2018, disclosing that he has been trying to recruit Chenault for years.

Zuckerberg optimistic that Chenault will help improve Facebook

Describing the business executive as a professional who has a sense of social mission and perspective from a wealth of experience in running an important public company for many years, Zuckerberg noted that Chenault’s expertise will help improve Facebook in many areas.

“He has unique expertise in areas I believe Facebook needs to learn and improve – customer service, direct commerce, and building a trusted brand,” Zuckerberg said

Mark Zuckerberg and Kenneth Chenault have been in touch over the years and have been discussing the mission and strategy of the Califonia based American based social media and social networking company. “…he has already helped me think through some of the bigger issues I’m hoping we take on this year,” Zuckerberg noted.

66-year-old Chenault an advocate for equality in the workplace

Facebook's Chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, says via a social media post on facebook wall she is “thrilled that Kenneth Chenault is joining the Facebook’s Board of Directors,” adding that she has been privileged to know Kenneth in his professional life as an America Express executive officer and as an advocate for equality in the workplace.

Kenneth Chenault is credited for propelling the American Express to reach record numbers of new customers and to become a market leader in customer service. The 66-year-old business executive has been at the helm of American Express as CEO and Chairman since 2001.

Founded 167 years ago, American Express is a multinational banking and financial services corporation located in New York City. The company, also known as Amex was in 2016 ranked by Interbrand - a global brand consultancy firm - as the 25th most valuable brand worldwide.
