Love truly is a battlefield on “Agents of SHIELD”, and no one knows that more than FitzSimmons.

Over the past five seasons, the fan-favorite ’shp has overcome everything from traumatic injuries to mysterious disappearances, literally traveling across the universe to find each other once more. As Gemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) fights to pull Fitz (Iain De Caesteckei) out of Aida’s (Mallory Jansen) twisted alternate reality, one has to wonder – where is FitzSimmons’ breaking point?

Can FitzSimmons survive the Framework?

For those keeping tabs on our heroes as they battle their way across the Hydra strewn landscape of the Framework, you’ll have noticed that the once lovable Fitz has turned into Madam Hydra’s heartless co-conspirator.

Quick on the trigger and willing to torture, Fitz has no idea just how diametrically opposite he is from the man Simmons fell in love with. Gemma, on the other hand, is witnessing this change hard on the heels of her battle with RoboFitz, the LMD.

Exactly how hard will it be for Simmons to put these memories behind her when the real Fitz is back in her arms?

“We don’t know if they’re going to get through it, that’s the thing,” Henstridge told fans at this year’s C2E2 convention in Chicago. “We don’t know how any of this is going to end.”

De Caestecker took a more optimistic tone, hinting at a conciliatory reunion.

“It seems like anything that gets thrown their way, they’re still pretty strong together as a unit, usually.”

In terms of emotional baggage, the Framework might just even the score.

“I got with an astronaut on another planet…now we’re even,” Henstridge joked, referencing season 3’s intergalactic storyline.

As for the marriage reference Fitz’s LMD made earlier this season, fans shouldn’t pass that off as just a fleeting remark. De Caestecker believes plans for the future are very much on his character’s mind.

“Let’s just remember he was an LMD at that point,” the actor laughed before reminding attendees that “it was still his kind of brain and his wants and desires in his head” so it is “definitely” something writers will touch on in the future.

What’s next on 'Agents of SHIELD'?

Slowly but surely, Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Simmons are prying the rest of Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) team away from the Framework’s snaking tendrils.

Escape is their only option, but, now that Madam Hydra is acutely aware of the presence, it’s a race against the clock. As Mace learned, death inside the computer simulation equates to death in real life.

In “All The Madame’s Men,” set to air on April 25, Daisy will find an unlikely ally (is there anyone more unlikely than Ward?) as Aida works to implement her final solution.
