Oh, Ragnar Lothbrok, how far you’ve fallen. Once the pride of “Vikings," the King of Denmark will open season 4B as a disgrace in the eyes of Gods and men alike. The winds of fortune have turned, and it’s Bjorn’s turn to find his way into the history books.

“Vikings” closed out the midseason finale with a massive time jump, transitioning Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) youngest sons from children to warriors in one fell swoop. The teens likely grew up hearing tales of their father’s conquests, stories of an ambitious farmer turned unlikely king. And yet, it’s a safe bet the no one from Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) to Ivar ever thought their wayward pops would ever return, least to launch a mission back to the shores of Wessex.

Premiere title & plot revealed

Nevertheless, that is exactly what Ragnar will have in mind during the midseason premiere. Titled “The Outsider,” the Nov. 30 hour will see Fimmel’s character struggle to scrape together a force to retake his failed farming community on the banks of the North Sea.There is one man who will join his crew, however, and that’s little Ivar. When the mission goes awry during “The Vision” (Dec. 7), the aged Norseman will find himself prostrate at the feet of an old foe.

“The Kattegat locals chide Ragnar that the gods have deserted him as he struggles to crew his voyage to Wessex. It’s Bjorn who has charisma now as he prepares to fulfill his long-held dream to explore the Mediterranean in a sleek new boat built for him by Floki,” the History Channel teased.

“By contrast, Ragnar must accept weathered boats and a crew he has bribed but when Aslaug foresees that the fleet will be lost in a vicious storm her warnings go un-heeded by Ragnar and her precious son, Ivar.”

What’s in store for Episode 3?

Shipwrecked in Britain by episode 3, Ragnar will find himself at the mercy of King Ecbert (Linus Roache).

He won’t be the only Lothbrok to encounter a familiar face, however, as Bjorn’s journey south allies him with afan favorite.
