Tight end Rob Gronkowski shocked almost everyone when he recently announced his retirement from the NFL after a nine-year playing career with the New England Patriots. However, Patriots veteran quarterback Tom Brady hinted that Gronkowski could make a return after posting a cryptic comment to the statistic posted by the NFL on its Instagram account.

The NFL posted a picture indicating that Gronkowski caught 78 touchdown passes from Brady during his nine-year playing career at Foxborough. Brady then commented, “I hope 78 isn’t the final number.” Brady’s comment caught the attention of NFL independent writer Dov Kleiman, who took a screenshot of the quarterback’s reply and posted it on his Twitter account, with the caption, “Tom Brady is playing with all of us...

or does he know?”

Brady’s comment could spark comeback rumors

Brady’s comment could spark Gronkowski’s comeback rumors, especially with the earlier statement of the tight end’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The agent said that Gronkowski could make a return to the football field at some point next season if Brady asks him to return or if the Patriots struggle in finding a new tight end. Rosenhaus later clarified that Gronkowski was serious in his decision to hang up his cleats for good.

Currently, the Patriots are thin at tight end, with only Jacob Hollister, Stephen Anderson, Ryan Izzo, and Matt LaCosse on their depth chart.

The Patriots could sign Gronkowski’s replacement from the free agent market or develop a new tight end from the 2019 NFL Draft. Gronkowski’s retirement has raised the Patriots’ salary cap room to $17 million and opened a place in the 90-man roster.

Gronkowski to join WWE?

As of now, the Patriots have placed Gronkowski on the reserve/retired list.

There is a possibility that Gronkowski could appear in the WWE. Earlier, Gronkowski’s friend, Mojo Rawley, hinted that the tight end could make an appearance in the WWE. In 2017, Gronkowski made an appearance at Wrestlemania 33 to help out Rawley.

To further fire up rumors of Gronkowski’s move to the WWE, superstar Lio Rush called out the former Patriots tight end on “Monday Night Raw” recently.

Gronkowski also made a surprise appearance at a WWE charity event.

However, WWE superstar Becky Lynch slammed the possibility that Gronkowski might make his formal entry into the WWE via Wrestlemania. In an interview with TMZ, Lynch said many wrestlers have to crawl their way up before making it to the big stage. “Some of us almost get fired and have to work our way and scratch and claw, and then we come to the main event,” Lynch said.
