Top seed Rafa Nadal has reached the China Open final. Spain's Nadal edged No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov in the Beijing semi-finals 6-3 4-6 6-1. Dimitrov hoped to pull off a surprise but couldn't get the job done in the decider.

Nadal, 31, broke Dimitrov in the fourth game to open up a 3-1 lead. Nadal saved Dimitrov's two consecutive break points in the seventh game for a 5-2 lead. The Spaniard served out for the first set in the ninth game.

Nadal started the second set by breaking Dimitrov in the opening game. Dimitrov fought back as he won three games in a row for a 4-3 lead.

Dimitrov then broke Nadal once again in the 10th game to force a decider.

The great Nadal kept his cool and focus after losing the second set. Nadal broke Dimitrov twice in a row to open up a comfortable 4-0 lead. Dimitrov got on the board in the fifth game but that was all from him.

Nadal broke Dimitrov five times during the match. The No. 1 seed also saved 10-of-12 of Dimitrov's break point chances. The match came to an end after two hours and 16 minutes of play.

Nadal has continued his success against Dimitrov. The head-to-head record between the two now stands at 9-1 in Nadal's favor. Interestingly, Dimitrov's only win against Nadal came a year ago in Beijing.

Kyrgios up next for Nadal

Nadal is set to meet No.

8 seed Nick Kyrgios in the China Open final. Australia's Kyrgios saw off No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev in the remaining Beijing semi-final clash. Kyrgios collected straight sets win 6-3 7-5 to book a ticket for the final.

Kyrgios saved a break point in the seventh game to open up a 4-3 lead. Kyrgios then broke Zverev in the following game to take a 5-3 lead.

The Australian routinely served out for the first set in the ninth game.

Zverev started the second set with two break points saved in the opening game. Kyrgios broke Zverev in the 11th game to take a 6-5 lead. The No. 8 seed then made no mistakes on his serve in the following game to clinch the win.

Kyrgios fired 11 aces and won 87 percent of his first serve points during the match.

Kyrgios broke Zverev twice and saved the German's only break point chance of the match. The clash came to an end after an hour and 17 minutes of action.

Kyrgios now has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Zverev. Earlier this year, Kyrgios defeated Zverev at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters. Zverev edged Kyrgios this past August at the Montreal Masters.

Set for meeting No. 5

Nadal and Kyrgios will be playing against each other for the fifth time when they meet in the China Open final. The head-to-head record between the two stands at 2-2. Kyrgios beat Nadal at Wimbledon in 2014 and the Cincinnati Masters this past August. Clay-court specialist Nadal defeated Kyrgios on the clay of Rome last year and Madrid this year.

Nadal has yet to beat Kyrgios on a faster surface. The China Open is an indoor hard event. Kyrgios didn't drop a set against Nadal in their clash on the hard of Cincinnati.
