While he wants to play very badly, there is a small chance that Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr can convince his coaches to start him against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The Raiders have officially listed Carr as questionable, meaning there is a possibility that he can suit up against the Ravens. Carr was diagnosed with a transverse process fracture in his back, which has a usual recovery period of two to six weeks. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Insider, Carr has a strong chance of returning next week but not against the Ravens, despite his eagerness to play.
After he was a limited participant during Thursday and Friday’s practices, it will be a surprise if Carr plays against the Ravens. If not, EJ Manuel will start at center as the Raiders try to come back from a two-game losing skid against the Ravens.
Redskins cornerback out four weeks
Rapoport also reported that Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman will be sidelined for four weeks due to a fractured rib he sustained in their 29-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Redskins will play the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys without their top corner. The Redskins have a bye this week. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said the team will be cautious regarding Norman’s recovery due to his delicate condition.
With Norman out, the Redskins will need 2016 third-round pick Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland to step up. Fuller and Breeland will be tested in the next three weeks when they go up against Pierre Garcon, Alshon Jeffery and Dez Bryant. Based on the timetable, Norman will return in Week 9 when the Redskins take on the Seattle Seahawks.
Titans QB questionable vs. Dolphins
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey said that quarterback Marcus Mariota will play against the Miami Dolphins if he passes a pre-game checkup. The Titans (2-2) listed Mariota as questionable due to the hamstring injury that he suffered in an embarrassing loss to the Houston Texans last week.
If Mariota cannot play, Matt Cassel will start for the Titans, who also signed Brandon Weeden recently for additional insurance at the quarterback spot. Before he was sidelined in the second half, Mariota completed six of 10 passes for 96 yards and two interceptions, and ran for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Cassel took over for Mariota in the second half, completing just four of 10 passes for 21 yards and two interceptions as the Titans lost to the Texans, 57-14.
