Premier League giants Manchester United have been linked with the services of Ivan Perisic for a number of months. The Inter Milan man had been on Jose Mourinho's radar in the summer as he looked to sign a left winger, but after failing to agree on a price with the Italian side, Perisic stayed on at the San Siro for the 2017/18 campaign.
The fans were overjoyed at the fact that the player did not leave this summer as he is highly rated among the Inter faithful. However, their nightmares could soon become a reality as the Red Devils are seriously looking to sign up the player.
How much will he cost United?
According to a report in the Sun, Ivan Perisic has a buyout clause of $70.58 million. This means that if United can match Inter's asking rate for the player, the decision lies with Perisic whether he wants to make the move overseas or commit his future to the Milan outfit.
A move to United could benefit the winger as he would have an opportunity to play in the Champions League - something which Inter Milan cannot guarantee at the moment, due to their dismal table position in the Serie A. The English club would also offer him a massive pay hike and guarantee a regular first-team role.
Is he worth such a high fee?
Manchester United have enjoyed a flying start to the new season.
With summer acquisitions Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic settling in seamlessly, the Red Devils look like a resurgent force ready to challenge the Premier League. They are also in a buoyant mood after winning their first two games in the UEFA Champions League as well as progressing to the next round of the League Cup.
On the left wing, which is the position Perisic will play if he arrives, United already have a heated positional battle going on.
One of last season's standout performers, Marcus Rashford, has been Mourinho's preferred option on the left flank, but after Anthony Martial's breathtaking cameos off the bench, the manager has a massive selection dilemma on his hands for next week's big game against Liverpool.
Adding another player to the mix can further add to Mourinho's problems.
He knows that there are still a few defensive reinforcements needed, so it remains to be seen as to whether or not he decides to invest a massive chunk of his budget on Perisic.
Also, given the player's age, he is not likely to get any better and could show signs of declining in a few seasons. Martial and Rashford, on the other hand, are youngsters that are still to reach their peak, and could play a massive role in Manchester United's long-term future.
