West Brom is the latest club to be linked with a move for ex-Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen. In England, Southampton is keen on signing Atletico Madrid's out-of-favor player Luciano Vietto on loan this summer. In Spain, La Liga newcomers Girona is on the verge of completing a loan move for Stoke City defender Marc Muniesa. Here's a full report:
Vermaelen linked with West Brom move
According to a report by Birmingham Mail, Thomas Vermaelen is linked with a move to Premier League club, West Bromwich Albion. However, it has been suggested that fellow EPL club Everton Football Club has already shown an interest in the defender and has held talks about a potential move.
Nevertheless, they needed some reassurance about his fitness. West Bromwich Albion could give the Belgium international a chance to decide, should they step up their interest with a formal bid. Thomas Vermaelen suffered an injury plagued spell at Barcelona since joining them in 2014 and has managed to earn just eleven La Liga appearances for the club so far. The former Arsenal player spent the whole of last season on loan at AS Roma, but the Italian club did not make the move permanent.
Southampton joins race to land Luciano Vietto
According to a report by HITC, Southampton is interested in signing up Atletico Madrid's Luciano Vietto on loan this summer. According to reports, Atletico Madrid is hoping to sell Vietto permanently this summer and “recoup” some money they spent on him in 2015.
The Argentinian striker joined Atletico two seasons ago from Villarreal for a fee worth around $22million. Luciano Vietto, 23, managed just twelve La Liga outings for Atletico Madrid and was subsequently shipped out to Sevilla last season, during which he scored six goals in twenty-one league appearances. Sampdoria, Valencia, and Marseille are all said to be interested in the young striker.
Girona close in on Marc Muniesa
Marc Muniesa is on the verge of joining La Liga newcomers Girona on loan, according to Daily Mail. Muniesa would join the Spanish club permanently but high wage demands were said to have “scuppered” that move. However, according to reports, the Stoke defender has given the nod to a loan move this summer, and he will now join Girona for the next season. The 25-year-old, having fallen down the pecking order under Mark Hughes, has managed to earn just ten EPL appearances for Stoke during the last term.
