Romelu Lukaku has resisted Chelsea's 11th hour bid to hijack his move to Manchester United, with the Belgian international set to officially join the Red Devils. Elsewhere, Inter Milan have made Arsenal star striker Alexis Sanchez their top transfer target this summer, while Crystal Palace are ready to make a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillerssen. Here's a complete report of the latest transfer updates Making The Rounds:
Lukaku set to join Manchester United
Manchester United have astonishingly agreed a fee of $96.9million plus add-ons for Romelu Lukaku, who'll become the second most expensive transfer in British soccer history, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea had earlier believed they were leading the race for the 24-year-old striker, who had apparently indicated to sources close to him that a return to Chelsea was his favored option.
Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward and manager José Mourinho stunned Chelsea's hierarchy last week Friday by agreeing a deal with Everton Football Club. Confirmation of the transfer was announced by Manchester United last Saturday and it read: “We're delighted to announce a fee has been agreed with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, subject to a medical and personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”
The Belgian international underwent his medicals last Saturday in Los Angeles and will be expected to stay there, where he'll meet up with his new teammates who flied out for their U.S preseason tour on Monday.
Inter Milan keen on Sanchez move
Alexis Sanchez's future at the Emirates is currently uncertain as he has one-year to run on his current contract and, yet, he hasn't signed a contract extension with the Gunners. That means Arsenal could be forced to sell the Chilean striker this summer or risk losing him for free in twelve months time.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich have both subsequently been linked with moves for the 28-year-old striker and it is suggested that he could go for upwards of $64.6million. However, according to the Sun, Inter Milan are now on the Chilean's tail too after making him their number 1 transfer target this summer.
Inter Milan are willing to make a “marquee signing” this summer window, and they believe Alexis Sanchez could be lured to Italy.
Crystal Palace willing to make Cillerssen as their number one keeper
Jasper Cillerssen only joined Barcelona last summer from Ajax for an initial fee of around $14.8m. However, the Dutchman has been restricted to appearances in cup competitions for Barcelona, and he played just once in La Liga last term. That has forced the 28-year-old goalkeeper to consider his future and, according to the Sun, EPL outfit Crystal Palace are willing to offer him a way out.
Palace manager Frank De Boer signed the keeper during his time at Ajax Amsterdam, and he apparently flourished as the Dutch club's number one. Frank de Boer is ready to work with Jasper Cillerssen once again and the pair could be set for a “reunion” this summer if a deal can be struck with Barca.
