The Dallas Cowboys young defense just took another hit on Tuesday night. Linebacker Police arrested Damien Wilson on July 4 on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to police in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Wilson allegedly backed his car into a woman and then pulled out a rifle. The incident happened at Frisco’s Freedom Fest at Toyota Stadium, the new state of the art multi-purpose venue in Frisco.

Damien Wilson’s Incident

Damien Wilson was arrested after the event. According to the police, he backed into the woman while he was parking.

After that, Wilson allegedly pulled the gun and pointed it at a man, which police said caused “fear.” The police arrested the 24-year-old running back at the event and he was released from jail on a $10,000 bond for each of the two aggravated assault counts. The Dallas Cowboys responded to ESPN by saying that they were aware of the incident and are investigating it. The NFL also said that they are looking into the arrest as well.

Possible NFL punishment

The NFL has a no-nonsense policy lately when it comes to players running into trouble with the law. When a player is arrested for something like assault or domestic abuse, the NFL usually steps in and the punishment is swift and decisive. The NFL could suspend Damien Wilson for the start of the 2017 Nfl Season with a four-game suspension possible.

If Wilson is suspended, the Dallas Cowboys will be hit with another tough loss before the season even starts.

Dallas Cowboys legal problems

The Dallas Cowboys learned last week that they will be without defensive lineman David Irving for the first four games of the 2017 NFL season. His infraction was violating the performance-enhancing drug policy.

Randy Gregory, the Cowboys second round pick from 2015, is suspended indefinitely for multiple drug infractions. Irvin can participate in the preseason while Gregory can have no contact with the Cowboys team.

If Damien Wilson is also suspended, that will mark the third defensive player who the Dallas Cowboys will be without when the 2017 NFL season starts.

A fourth could be new cornerback Nolan Carroll, who was arrested and charged with a DWI in May. Carroll was leaving a party welcoming him to Dallas and was caught driving on the wrong side of the road.

Damien Wilson started six games in 2016 and played in all of them. He finished with 35 tackles and half a sack on the year. He is expected to start the season and play alongside Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith.
