EPL newcomers Newcastle United are in close talks with Hellas Verona winger Souza Romulo and are confident of finalizing a deal within the coming weeks. In Italy, Serie A club AC Milan have stepped-up efforts to land Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal target Simon Kjaer. Former Arsenal defender and recent West Ham United target Johan Djourou is set to join French Ligue 1 club Montpellier. Here's a report of the latest transfer updates Making The Rounds.
Benitez keen on Romulo move
Souza Romulo made the switch to Italy from his native Brazil in the summer of 2012 to sign for ACF Fiorentina and subsequently Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez saw him at “close quarters” during his time as SSC Napoli head coach in 2013.
Now Rafa Benitez wants to add the Brazilian midfielder to his ranks at Newcastle United according to Inside Futbol, as Romulo looks set to join the North England club. Romulo scored four goals and provided nine assists last term as Hellas Verona were promoted back to the Italian top flight league. And with discussions ongoing, Newcastle United are confident of signing the 30-year-old midfielder, as they continue to “bolster” their squad ahead of the new EPL campaign.
Fenerbahçe S.K. willing to accept Milan's swoop offer
AC Milan is reportedly willing to give Turkish giants Fenerbahçe priority to sign Carlos Bacca if they allow the purported transfer of Simon Kjaer to go ahead. Carlos Bacca is another Premier League target with West Ham United and Arsenal both keeping close tabs on his current situation at AC Milan.
However, AC Milan's latest offer to Fenerbahçe S.K. could spell an end to the Premier League duo's interest in Carlos Bacca, with Milan willing to pull out all the stops in order to sign Simon Kjaer, according to Tribal Football. Kjaer is currently valued at just over $21.5million and has been constantly linked with a possible move to England for the last few months.
Turkish giants Fenerbahçe S.K. have desperately tried to ward-off growing interests in the 28-year-old defender but now may be tempted into selling their star defender to AC Milan, in order to maximize their chances of signing Carlos Bacca.
Johan Djourou set to join Montpellier
Johan Djourou apparently fell out of favor at SV Hamburg towards the end of last season and it was speculated that Premier League club West Ham United may make a move for the center back this summer.
However, according to Chatsports, Djourou will sign a two-year deal with French Ligue 1 club Montpellier once he returns from his current holiday. The Swiss international has been at SV Hamburg since 2013 when he left English giants Arsenal FC and spent time as skipper of the German outfit, for which he racked-up ninety-four Bundesliga appearances.
Before that, the center back played 100 times in Premier League during his time at Arsenal FC and a loan stint at Hannover 96 and Birmingham City.
