Milos Raonic of Canada has reached the Delray Beach Open semi-finals after being heavily contested by Briton Kyle Edmund on Friday, 4-6 6-3 6-3. Top-seeded Raonic needed an hour and 39 minutes of play to complete a comeback against the rising player from Great Britain. World number four Raonic is having a good campaign in his debut appearance at Florida's ATP 250 event. The Saturday's semi-final will be his second of the 2017 season - he featured the Brisbane International last-four stage - where he ended losing to eventual champion Grigor Dimitrov.
Raonic fired ten aces against Edmund - won 45 out of 50 points played under his first serve - converted 2 out of 4 of his break point chances, and saved 1 out of 2 of Edmund's break point opportunities.
Juan Martin del Potro starts his season in a style
Argentinian tennis player Juan Martin del Potro has made the semi-finals of his first ATP event of the 2017 season. Del Potro handed a straight sets loss to Sam Querrey in the Delray Beach Open quarter-finals 7-5 7-5. It took just over an hour and a half for the clash to be concluded; an hour and 33 minutes. Interestingly, del Potro made his season debut in 2016 in Delray Beach - where he ended losing to Querrey in the last-four stage. Querrey, who made it all the way at the tournament last year, won't defend his title.
28-year-old Del Potro served eight aces - won 39 out of 45 of his first serve points - converted 2 out of 5 of his break chances. On the other side, Querrey caught fire on his serve - hitting 16 aces - winning 30 out of 33 of his first serve points - but came up short in the end. He didn't have a single break point chance against the 2016 Rio Olympics runner-up.
