Of course, no man knows the hour, and I am not saying the end of the world is nigh. However, I do believe all Bible prophecy will be fulfilled. So, what if we are witnessing evidence of the beginnings of things to come, right now?
The Book of Revelation, Chapter 17 starts off with a warning about the “prostitute riding on a beast, sitting on many waters.” Chapter 19 prophesies “Babylon the Great” will fall.
Below are interpretations of Biblical scholars and commentators regarding these and other symbols. For some, the Bible actually gives direct meaning:
- The “prostitute” may represent a seduction of government systems
- The “beast” that ‘once was, now is, and will come… (Rev. 17:8) may represent a resurgence of evil power, an anti-Christ.
- The “waters” where the “prostitute” sit upon may represent people, nations, languages.
- The scriptures actually tells us that the “ten kings” (leaders) will hate and turn on the “prostitute.” Comments in the NIV version states that the “prostitute” uses immoral means to gain its own pleasure and prosperity.
- “Babylon” is a metaphorical term for evil world power or a great evil city such as Rome during the time.
Revelation 17:12 “The ten kings who will receive a kingdom will have it for one hour (limited time) before handing over their power/themselves to the influence of the “beast.”
The Book of Revelation: Chapter 18
This chapter speaks of the destruction of Babylon, an immoral empire.
Those who are tied to and are responsible for world economic systems, who enriched themselves, will lose everything. Even the merchants will weep because there will be no place to bring or sell their wares as they watch the smoke billow from this once great city.
Revelation 18:8 “Therefore, in one day her plagues will overtake her; death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
These are interesting times
If nothing else, I can think of many parallels. America is seeing a change in its government system the likes of never seen before. Greed and corruption is blatant – immoral. We’re threatened (North Korea) with and even enticing war (our President).
The Book Of Revelation also speaks of coming famine, plagues, diseases, strangeness in the water, etc. Think Flint, Michigan and this administration’s determination to gut EPA regulations and other scientific and/or health programs. Our crops and water will not survive such denial and selfishness, all in the thinly-veiled name of greed.
Are we living in the very early stages of Revelation 17-18? Scary thought isn’t it? Of course, there is the good chance that we are not, but we certainly are living in a strange time. Watch and pray.
