Niantic Labs, the company behind the popular ‘Pokémon GO’ game, was left red faced when the long-advertised ‘Pokémon GO’ Fest held in Chicago failed diabolically due to server issues and other Log-in problems for gamers. Before the event, the company had invited ‘Pokémon GO’ Players from all across the globe to take part in the real world event, which would give them a chance to unlock Legendary Creatures in the game.
However, after the almost complete failure of the event, Niantic is trying to mend fences with fans who were prompted a new ‘Pokémon GO’ experience with the legendary creatures, which have been unavailable in the game before.
Now, the company has introduced two new legendary Pokémon into the game.
Two legendary creatures added
The developers have added two legendary creatures for gamers to capture in the game, namely Lugia and Articuno. Lugia was added after players took part and completed various challenges as part of the fest held in Chicago. ‘Pokémon GO’ gamers had to catch millions of smaller Pokémon during the challenge window to unlock the legendary Pokémon.
Articuno was added into the game as it was the mascot for Team Mystic, which managed to capture the most number of Pokémon during the challenge window. Aside from these two additions, Niantic has also announced that it would soon be adding the mascots of Team Valor and Team Instinct as well.
So, players can hope Zapdos and Moltres to arrive into the game soon as well.
The developers are also rewarding players for the impressive performance shown by them throughout last weekend. These rewards include double stardust, double the amount of candy, double XP, increased encounters of Pokémon, reduced buddy distance, and finally reduced hatching distance.
Niantic may also reward the fest attendees with Lugia. However, this is not known for certain.
Catching a legendary Pokémon will be immensely challenging as they will appear only during legendary Raid Battles, which are extremely tough to compete in. However, a trainer who acquires one of the legendary creatures will become a force to reckon with.
However, these Pokémon cannot be left in the Gym to guard as other normal Pokémon can be.
‘Pokémon GO’ Fest issues
Even though people from all over the world visited Chicago to attend the event, Niantic faced quite a few problems when it came to server issues and cell phone connectivity. The company was quick to state that the ticket prices would be refunded to the attendees after the event and $100 worth of in-game items will also be made available to them for free.
