Miss Universe Organization along with the Philippine Department of Tourism and LCS Group of Companies have announced that the annual competition will be held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The 65th edition of Miss Universe beauty pageant will happen at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City on January 30, 2017. The competition will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Philippine standard time. It will be broadcasted live in 190 countries. This is the third time for the Philippines to host the competition, the first one is in 1974 and the second one is in 1994. According to Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart, Philippines has been the primary choice of the organization to host pageant.

Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Miss Universe tickets will be available online

According to The Philippine Star, one of the leading newspaper in the Philippines, The Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo announced in a press briefing in Makati City that tickets will be available online starting December 20, 2016. General admission tickets will cost around $160 or approximately P8,000 while VIP tickets would cost more or less $1,000 or about P50,000. Tickets will be available via TicketNet, a computerized ticketing network in the Philippines. Teo also said that there are only around 200 VIP tickets that will be sold for the VIP section as Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has already reserved most of the seats.

No announcement has been made for the prices of the upper and lower box tickets.

In addition, Tickets for Miss Universe swimsuit presentation are priced at P12,500, according to Cebu Daily News. The swimsuit presentation of the pageant will be held in Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu in Lapu Lapu City on January 17, 2017.

Aside from Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Vigan will also host some preliminary events which will held between January 13 and 18 next year.

On the other hand, MUO president Paula Shugart confirmed that US comedian Steve Harvey will host the competition despite what happened in last year’s competition when he mistakenly announced the wrong winner.

Harvey will have a co­-host who is a Filipina during the pageant. Shugart also denied reports that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will sit as one of the pageant's judges. She explained that there is policy not to have government officials as judges because they have to be neutral.

Activities for Miss Universe 2016 has officially begun

At least Eleven candidates of Miss Universe are currently in the country for pre-pageant activities. Miss Universe candidates visited Siargao, one of the best surfing spots in the world on Sunday morning, December 11. The candidates also did a quick trip to Cebu on Tuesday, December 13. One of their activities in town was to watch the endangered whale sharks.

However this activity causes controversy due to its negative impact on the animals caused by human interaction. The candidates also visited the Magellan’s Cross, and the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in Cebu City for photo and video shoots. The beauty queens also toured Manila where they visited the historic place Intramuros. They enjoyed riding on a kalesa and offered a wreath at the monument of Philippines national hero Jose Rizal.
