Rigobert Song, Cameroonian footballer come coach is caught between life and death after suffering a stroke on Sunday. Sources say he was rushed to the Central Hospital of the country’s capital, Yaounde. It is likely, that he will be flown abroad for proper medical attention as is the case with most important personalities of the state.

Song, 40, has recorded the highest number of appearance in the country’s national team, the Indomitable Lions -137 appearances. He won the African Cup of Nations with the team in 2000 against Nigeria and in 2002 against Senegal. Song retired from international football after participating in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa; a participation which made him the first African player to participate in four World Cups - 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2010.

Song who was captain of the national team also played in renowned football clubs including English Clubs like Liverpool, and West Ham United. He won two Super Lig cups in Turkey with Galasataray and one with Trabzonspor in 2010. He also played for the French Club, Metz when it won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2006 among other clubs.
