Google unveiled its Oreo software update during the I/O conference in May this year. Since then, the search giant has been deploying the update in multiple developer previews. They officially launched Oreo for widespread use in August. The search giant’s propriety smartphones – including the original Pixel line-up along with its successors, Pixel 2 and XL 2 were among the few to have received the update. Other technology giants are reported to only work towards deploying Oreo. Nokia has made certain promises about delivering Oreo to its products as soon as possible. Joining the bandwagon is Sony. According to a report by Tech Radar, the Japanese company is not far behind Google when it comes to Oreo [VIDEO].

The update is apparently being made available for Xperia XZ Premium smartphones.

3D scanning application

The report by Tech Radar further adds that the update has already been made available for smartphone users in the Middle East. Another report by Ausdroid suggests that Sony is preparing to launch the update in other regions, including Africa, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. US, UK, Australia, Canada and other regions of Asia will follow thereafter. As soon as Xperia XZ users install the Oreo update, they will be able to make use of a number of new features. The software system does not only enhance the speed of the handset but also brings with it multiple high-end technologies. For example, Oreo is expected to carry Sony’s propriety 3D scanning application. The company has designed the application in a manner that allows users to capture three-dimensional scans of their faces.
