For the Nebraska football team, getting an unofficial visit from Jamar Sekona is a win of sorts. The Huskers have been working hard to get game-changing defensive tackles into town. When they have in very recent past, they have found that they have been able to impress the person who came to check out what Lincoln and Memorial Stadium had to offer.
Gabriel Rubio certainly liked what he saw when he came to town in December.
Rubio didn't even come to see the team when the Spring Game was going on. Sekona will be checking out the Big Red when the stadium is almost 100 percent full, despite the fact that fans are just watching a glorified practice.
There have been more than a few players who have voiced just how impressed they have been by what they saw during the Huskers' Spring Game. The need for the Cornhuskers to impress Sekona is even bigger when you consider just how good the defensive tackle is and how hard it's going to be to pull him away from the school he's considered by many to be leaning.
Nebraska football has tall order ahead
If the Cornhuskers are going to have a chance to pull Sekona away from his home state, they are going to need to show everything that being a member of this program has to offer. Jamar Sekona is a 4-star prospect that is the 25th best player in the entire state when talking about the 2020 class.
He's also the 28th best defensive tackle in his class. That's one of the reasons he's got 14 schools that have already offered him. The schools that have come calling for the defensive tackle are some of the best in the Pac 12. That includes Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Cal.
The Golden Bears are considered to be the front runners, but it's going to be hard to entice him away from California, no matter where he ends up.
On the other hand, it's possible that the Huskers have a kind of an ace in the hole.
Huskers' hidden weapon
The man who will be having the most contact with Jamar Sekona, throughout the rest of the recruitment process, certainly understands his chief competition. The newest Nebraska football coach, Tony Tuioti, wasn't at Cal long (just one year) but it's a safe bet he already had some contact with Sekona during his time there.
Perhaps that is the reason the Golden Bears were the leader in the first place. If that's correct, it certainly seems as though the Cornhuskers might have a way to lure the defensive tackle away from the Pac 12 region. With an unofficial visit during the Spring Game secured, it's onto the next step in Jamar Sekona's recruitment.
