When the Nebraska football team goes up against Wisconsin, it’s always a rivalry game, even if that rivalry has been rather one sided recently. At least one Husker player is apparently going to be taking that rivalry to the next level in his head as he has vociferously exclaimed just how much he hates the Badgers.
One of the newest commits to the Nebraska Cornhuskers might have a bit of a reason to hate Wisconsin more than most. It’s a safe bet his recent interview will certainly endear him to Husker fans, but there’s a chance his comments could eventually become bulletin board fodder.
Matt Sichterman recently gave an interview to the Land of 10 where talked about a rather visceral hatred of Wisconsin and it doesn’t look as though the football player’s hatred is going to be going away anytime soon.
Nebraska football commit jilted by the Badgers
In the interview with the website, Sichterman, a lineman who signed with the Huskers in the last signing period, said he was being heavily recruited by his original home state Badgers but they had a caveat before they would take him. Wisconsin told the football player that he needed to hit a certain weight before he would get an official scholarship offer.
The offensive tackle was told he needed to get his weight up to 265 pounds and then the Nebraska rival would welcome him into their program.
Though Sichterman had moved to Ohio by the time he was pummeling opposing defensive lineman, he was contacted by his favorite team on Twitter and given the news he needed to add weight
Scholarship offer never came for Nebraska football signee
When Sichterman got that message, he was sitting at 235 pounds. Wanting to show the Camp Randall residents he could do what was asked of him, he hit the gym and gained 30 pounds.
When he hit his mark, he messaged the coach back and let him know he was ready for an offer. The problem was that the coach appeared to have lost interest in the player.
“And that just kind of, that just kind of p---d me off, honestly,” Sichterman told the website. It wasn’t that the offensive lineman wasn’t sought after. Not only did Nebraska give him an offer, but so did teams like Pitt, Oregon State, Rutgers and others.
In total, he received 16 offers and eventually decided to sign the with Huskers. These days, Sichterman is very happy with where he’s at but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten how he was treated. Nebraska has his heart and his allegiance, but he would love to be able to show the football team that turned their back on him they made a terrible mistake.
