On a rare Saturday game for the NFL, the Miami Dolphins will be taking on the New York Jets. This game, following the Thursday night matchup, also has serious playoff implications for the Dolphins, but they will have to win without their starting quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. In his place is backup veteran, Matt Moore. This is quite an odd game, as a fan and a bettor, so let's break down all the variables.

The weather

East Rutherford is going to have some terrible weather this Saturday, with rain and snow all throughout the day and light showers into the night. The temperature will be around 42 degrees, making conditions harsh but not unbearable.

The Dolphins showed us last week that they can bend but not break even in a torrential downpour, beating the Cardinals 26-23. If the weather starts coming down, we may be in for plenty of turnovers.

Miami (-3)

For some reason, the bookies aren't deterred from the Dolphins being favored, even though they are on the road with a backup quarterback. Matt Moore, filling in for the injured Tannehill, is a veteran QB. Over his career, he's thrown for 33 touchdowns to 28 interceptions. Also, in the 25 games Matt Moore has actually had to start, he's a positive 13-12. While these stats might not seem impressive, he's always had to enter games midway due to injuries from the 1st or 2nd string quarterbacks.

It is never easy to enter a professional football game with 1st team reps, and yet Moore has maintained a positive touchdown to interception ratio. Not to mention how difficult it is for backups to maintain a level-head when starting a game. The NFL is a tough league to win in if you don't have an above average quarterback, hence why Tony Romo is so valuable.

On the other hand, the Jets have finally found their quarterback in Bryce Petty. Last week against the 49er's, Petty lead the Jets to a win on the road, overcoming an early 14 point deficit. Jets' fans should rejoice that Fitzpatrick is out. Despite the quarterback carousel in New York, Petty has had plenty of poise and confidence, but this game at home will prove difficult against Miami's defense.

This game is looking to be a close shootout between desperate division rivals, as this game is a must win to ensure playoff hopes for the Dolphins. With the rain potentially causing turnovers in a team's own territory, look for major points scored. Matt Moore for the Dolphins and Bryce Petty for the Jets are looking to make an exciting match-up on Saturday night.
