The Washington Redskins currently sit at 7-6-1 after a tough loss to the Carolina Panthers at home. Now the Redskins will need a little bit of help if they are going to earn the sixth wild card spot in the NFC. Wondering how it could happen? Here's what Redskins fans should be rooting for in the last few weeks of the year.

Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers are now 8-6 but remain behind the Packers in the NFC playoff race. For the Redskins to pass them, they will need one of the following scenarios to occur.

  • Redskins win out and Buccaneers lose one of two games to Saints or Panthers, Packers lose one or both games or win final two games and the NFC North with two Lions losses
  • Redskins win one of last two games, Buccaneers lose both games to Saints and Panthers, Packers lose both games to Lions and Vikings, Vikings lose one of last two games

Green Bay.

The Packers currently own the sixth wild card spot and are slowly creeping up to challenge the Lions for the division.

The Redskins actually defeated the Packers earlier in the season but their tie against the Bengals prevents head to head tiebreakers from actually mattering. Here's what the Redskins need from Green Bay to pass them in their playoff push.

  • Redskins win final two games, Packers lose one of two games against the Vikings or Lions
  • Redskins win one of final two games, Packers lose both games against Vikings and Lions
  • Packers defeat Vikings and Lions, Lions lose final two games to Cowboys and Packers, Packers win NFC North

Detroit Lions.

The Lions currently own the division lead in the NFC North but that could easily change with tough games against the Cowboys and Packers coming up. That opens the door for a Redskins playoff push if the following scenario should occur.

  • Redskins win last two games, Lions lose final two games to Cowboys and Packers, Packers win final two games and NFC North

Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons are in a similar situation to the Lions at 9-5 and in command of the division. But the Redskins could pass them if the following scenario occurs.

  • Falcons lose final two games to Panthers and Buccaneers, Redskins win final two games, Buccaneers win NFC South

Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings currently have a record of 7-7 and can't be considered a serious playoff contender. Still, they are competing with the Redskins for a spot. Here's what the Redskins need to make sure the Vikings don't catch them.

  • Redskins win one of final two games

The Redskins are still in prime position to make the playoffs in 2016, but they're going to need a little bit of help after their Monday night loss to get there.
