As Anthony Joshua readies himself for his IBF heavyweight title defense against Eric Molina this Saturday, former WBO heavyweight champion shannon briggs has arrived in Manchester to show his support for the 27-year-old, but has told Joshua to avoid a fight with him if he wants to have a long title reign.

Shannon Briggs gatecrashes another press conference

After a chaotic press conference between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora earlier on this week, which saw Chisora launch a table at his opponent before the pair were restrained by security, the ever-entertaining Shannon Briggs was in town to brighten up the affair, interrupting the conference to shout at Joshua and his Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, along with a few signature "lets go champ" hollers.

After gatecrashing the press event, Briggs was later filmed showing his support for Joshua ahead of Saturday's fight alongside the Olympic gold medallist. However, during an interview with Sky Sports News, Briggs was all business as he claimed that he could take the title from Joshua if given the opportunity.

Briggs went on to say that he had been very impressed with the undefeated Joshua, and believes that if his promoter "keeps him away" from Briggs that he can enjoy a "long reign" as champion, Briggs also complimented Joshua by calling him "the future of the sport."

What's next for Shannon Briggs?

Briggs had been scheduled to fight for the vacant WBA regular world title against the Australian Lucas Browne, however, the match-up was scratched after Browne failed a VADA administrated drug test for the second time last month.

Briggs, who has made no secret of his desire to land a match with British boxer David Haye, said that he would be looking for Haye on Saturday night as both are scheduled to be in attendance at the Manchester Arena. Haye is set to fight fellow Briton Tony Bellew early next year, so a long awaited match between Haye and Briggs looks like it may have to wait for now, at least.

Briggs is currently 45-years-old but claims he feels "unstoppable," and is in the "best shape" of his life.
