Roger Federer's India Aces Tennis team started the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) off right. He wasn't in Japan with his team, however the Aces won their opening match on Thursday against the Japan Warriors. The result of the match saw the India Aces sweep the Warriors 5-0 in the sets that were played. They also took 30 of 47 games that were played with Kirsten Flipkens, Mark Philippousis, and Feliciano Lopez doing the damage in the singles component of the match. Federer joins the team later this month in India where he may just help his team to a league title.

Federer joins India Aces December 10th

Roger Federer, who recently participated in the #MannequinChallenge, is listed as a match entrant for next week. The matches in the IPTL involve numerous players substituting in for one another with each set. With individual action limited that way, the league won't put Federer to the test as ATP events do. However, low-demand matches may be a good way for Federer to ease back into competition. His fans, according to the IPTL's schedule, can expect him to be back in action in Hyderabad, India on December 10th.

Maria Sharapova changes focus to tennis

Shortly thereafter Maria Sharapova will make a return to the tennis courts. The former World No. 1 will be in Puerto Rico mid-December to take on Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig at The Monica Puig Invitational.

The event is exhibition, but I think Sharapova will look at it as a chance to fine-tune her tennis as she sits out with suspension.

In following her social media accounts for the last several weeks, most of her posts are about Sugarpova, her brand of candy. But Maria Sharapova tweeted about practicing of late, something that actually breaks from her normal social media patterns.

On December 1st she tweeted "Putting in the seconds, minutes, hours" from her verified Twitter account. The accompanying picture shows her practicing on the hard-court surface. The location of the court is not clear, however, on November 27th she claimed that she was in California. It will be nice to see her back in tennis action in San Juan on December 15th.
