As originally reported by Douglas Hart on the NWA's Facebook page
The Heatseekers shocked the entire National Wrestling Alliance this past Thursday night and defeated The Iron Empire at an NWA Mid-South sanctioned event for the NWA World Tag Team Championships just one day before their huge match-up against Team I.O.U. at NWA Smoky Mountain's huge end of the year finale event. After the breaking news made its way to NWA Ringside, the official website of the National Wrestling Alliance, it was then announced that The Heatseekers would be defending their newly won crowns against Team I.O.U. at the NWA Smoky Mountain finale instead of their NWA United States Tag Team Championships.
Major news before a major event
The card for the NWA Smoky Mountain finale event got bigger and bigger each passing week. The card's main event was "The Gift" Jason Kincaid defending his NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship against New Japan Pro Wrestling's own, Michael Elgin. Even though that match is a main event in any promotion, having an NWA sanctioned championship being defended at the finale only made the card deeper and more star-studded than it already was. It was the perfect way for the National Wrestling Alliance to end a year in which they positioned themselves to return to their original status as the top promotion in the sport of professional wrestling.
What does this mean for the other challengers on the horizon?
One team that will be very interested in hearing the results from last night's epic Smoky Mountain finale event is NWA Supreme's Custom Made.
Custom Made won the James Bowling Memorial Tournament last month in order to earn a shot at the then World Tag Team Champions, The Iron Empire. Also, not too long after their tournament win, they ended up winning the NWA Mid-America Tag Team Championships after defeating The Love Connection for the belts at an NWA Supreme weekly live event. Only time will tell when Custom Made will finally get their opportunity at the NWA World Tag Team Championship; but, after a wild weekend in the NWA Tag Team Division, who knows what will happen next?
