As the trade deadline continues to get closer, a lot of NBA stars are being tossed around in potential deals. Rudy Gay has been a name that has been floating around in trade rumors for quite some time now. He has been toiling away with the lowly Sacramento Kings for the past few seasons and it appears as is if both the team and Gay are looking for a change. Gay is currently in the prime of his career and it is believed that he would like to take his talents to a contender while he still has juice left in the tank.

Rudy Gay to the Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of several teams interested in Rudy Gay's services.

The Lakers have been a lot more competitive this year so far as opposed to the Kobe farewell tour last season that resulted in multiple losses and guaranteed them an NBA lottery pick.

The young core of D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, and rookie Brandon Ingram seems very promising at first glance and maybe Rudy Gay believes he can be the piece to put them over the top. The Western Conference is extremely competitive but the athleticism and veteran experience that Gay would bring to the table could be exactly what the Lakers need to boost their playoff aspirations.

Three team trade proposal

There is a proposed trade that would actually allow Rudy Gay to pack his bags and head to Los Angeles.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings, and the Lakers are reportedly in discussions for a multi-team swap. This particular scenario would have Darren Collison from the Kings and Luol Deng from the Lakers heading to Minnesota, Ricky Rubio heading to Sacramento, and Rudy Gay to the Lakers. This deal would potentially benefit all parties involved.

Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has already suggested that he wants a savvy veteran to help develop his talented young core of Karl Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and Zach Lavine. Luol Deng would help fill that mold perfectly, plus he is one of Thibodeau's former players when he coached the Chicago Bulls so they already have familiarity.

The Kings would get an upgrade at point guard with the arrival of Ricky Rubio and the Lakers would get a star forward in Rudy Gay to elevate theire roster to another level. Only time will tell if these teams decide to pull the trigger on this blockbuster deal.
