Bobby Roode became the final man to qualify for the No1 Contenders Fatal 4-Way match next week on NXT. He accomplished this feat Wednesday night by defeating Oney Lorcan, a seldom seen singles competitor on the roster.

The win comes on the heels of an impressive performance from Roode at NXT Takeover: Toronto from Survivor Series weekend two weeks ago. The weekend was held in Roode's hometown of Toronto, where he and his ring music were tremendously over with the fans.

Bobby Roode to Challenge for NXT Championship?

As arguably the highest ranked guy in the 8-man mini-tournament to crown a new top contender, Roode was granted possibly the easiest qualifying match.

Nothing against Oney Lorcan, but coming into this match he had only one televised victory to his record. While Lorcan may find himself in a better position somewhere down the line, he realistically did not stand much of a chance here against Roode.

Despite an obvious belief that Roode can be a top star for the brand, this match was surprisingly even. Roode took the early advantage, but Lorcan landed some shots while Roode stopped to pose. Lorcan wouldn't stay on offense long, however, though he did manage to get far more moves in than anyone could have expected.

Roode hit the "Glorious DDT" for the clean victory to advance in the mini-tournament. It was a big win coming off a stellar performance from NXT: Toronto over Survivor Series weekend.

Bobby Roode vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

With the win over Lorcan, Roode now has a chance to earn an NXT Championship match against Shinsuke Nakamura. A match with Nakamura would be the biggest in Roode's career to date. While he wrestled legends in TNA, it was always done so under what many consider a tainted brand; this would be big for Bobby Roode's career.

He can place his career on that path with a win next week.

Roode turns 40 on new years day, so the clock is ticking on his career. He needs to prove his worth to WWE soon. He doesn't have time to botch his first main event program with the company. It is unlikely that he would however, Roode is a very consistent performer.

He also has plenty of experience, even if people don't respect the company he gained that experience in.
