What a difference a day makes. After three of the top NCAA Football teams suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, the AP poll, and probably college football playoff rankings scheduled for Tuesday, are changed radically. The one certainty is top-ranked Alabama, 10-0, is still the best in the land. After the Crimson Tide, AP has Ohio State, Louisville, Michigan and Clemson two through five. The oddity here is the Tigers (9-1) rallied to beat the Cardinals (9-1) earlier in the season. It looks like both teams could go 11-1, but Louisville has the tougher schedule, facing Houston this week.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines square off Nov. 26 at Ohio State. Both squads are 9-1.

New CFP ranking

This week’s CFP should see Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Michigan. Some of the teams moving up will include Louisville, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Oklahoma over Washington, Texas A&M and Auburn. Virginia Tech will fall, North Carolina may drop out and Arkansas will certainly exit the CFP 25. Some were critical of the CFP after its first ranking for leaving out schools from the Big 12 and Pac 12, but those conferences have played subpar football this year. After losing at home to USC 26-13 Saturday, Washington (9-1) needs to beat Washington State (8-2, 7-0) in the season finale to win the Pac 12 North.

The Big 12 is up for grabs between Oklahoma (8-2, 7-0), Oklahoma State (8-2, 6-1) and West Virginia (8-1, 5-1). The Sooners have lost to Ohio State and Houston. OSU fell to Central Michigan and Baylor, but beat the Mountaineers.

WMU still fighting

Undefeated Western Michigan (10-0, 6-0 Mid-American Conference) will probably not lock up a New Year’s Day bowl before Nov.

25. That’s when the Broncos face Toledo (8-2, 5-1) in a game that will probably determine the MAC West champion. WMU faces Buffalo (2-8, 1-5) this week. The Rockets face Ball State (1-5, 2-8). No one would be happier to see the Broncos stumble than Boise State. The teams were ranked 21-22 last week by the CFP selection committee.

BSU’s loss was by 2 at Wyoming earlier, and the BSU Broncos face high-scoring UNLV this week.
