"Diego goal," as he is popularly called in some parts of the world, has once again proved that he is one of the best strikers in England. He once again struck the back of the net on Sunday against Middleborough, a goal which ensured that Chelsea FC are the current leaders in the English Premier League.

Diego Costa’s goal also ensured that Chelsea have now won five matches without conceding a goal and comfortably sit on top of the English Premier League dethroning Liverpool, who were the league leaders before this weekend's matches kicked off.

Liverpool could not hold on to the league leading position after they slumped to a goalless draw against Southampton on Saturday.

Klopp's men have been in red-hot form but could not find the back of the net last weekend against the Saints. The Reds' draw motivated Antonio Conte-led Chelsea to take up the leading position, with Diego Costa’s goal being the saving moment at the 41st minute. Chelsea FC now sit at the top of the league table.

Diego Costa for the Golden Boot?

The Chelsea striker is in his scoring boots, having scored his 10th goal of the season and is currently leading the goal-scoring chart in EPL ahead of the likes of Agüero, Lukaku, Defoe, and Hazard. As Costa is shaking off a rather disappointing 2015/2016 spell with Chelsea FC, you might want to think that the Chelsea maestro is ready to take this season's EPL Golden Boot.

The Golden Boot holder, Riyad Mahrez, has not been on the scoring sheet as we anticipated he would or as he did last season and so it is eminent that he might not be contending for the top scorer gong this season.

D. Costa's goal scoring statistics

  • Diego Costa has lead the top scorers chart at one point in the league since he came into the EPL in 2014/2015 season
  • He has not failed to be among the top 5 scorers in the EPL since his arrival at Chelsea FC from Atlético Madrid in the 2014/2015 season.
  • He has scored in every 106 minutes this season. He is the first player to score 10 goals this season in the English Premier League.
  • He has failed to win the EPL's Golden Boot because he is yet to finish first in the top scorers' chart for two seasons now.

Can Diego Costa scoring prowess continue until the end of the season?
