The Dallas Cowboys head into Week 13 of the 2016/17 NFL season as the team with the best record. At 10-1, they not only look good to make the playoffs but they look good to avoid Wild Card weekend as well. When it comes to making the playoffs they could find themselves guaranteed a spot by the end of Week 13 action. The Cowboys next play the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night. If they get a win there then they could clinch a playoff spot if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose or tie or if the Washington Redskins lose.

Dallas Cowboys favored to beat Minnesota

In that scenario, 11 wins would guarantee at least the 2nd Wild Card spot.

As far as beating the Minnesota Vikings goes, the Dallas Cowboys are the betting-odds favorites in the game (10/19 with 888Sport). Dallas have won ten straight and they are also undefeated on the road this season. However, the Minnesota Vikings have played well at home as they've won four of their five games as hosts.

Thursday night's game is a tricky one for Dallas, but if they can get a win then they would set themselves up nicely not just for playoff positioning but for a divisional title. The New York Giants are two full games back of Dallas in the AFC East. With games in the schedule running out, a Dallas win on Thursday would mean that the Giants would have to start weighing their Wild Card options.

From that point of view, they do look good right now as they are two games in the clear for the first Wild Card spot entering Week 13.

Dallas Cowboys tops in power rankings

The Cowboys finished first in Elliot Harrison's recent power rankings at NFL.com and Dallas are now also the betting favorite to win their conference.

Harrison commented on some defensive lapses with Dallas and seemed to be dismissive of them: "the Cowboys' secondary is getting torched. They were much better when Morris Claiborne and Barry Church were healthy. Guess what? Church is back, and Claiborne should follow suit in a couple of weeks" (NFL.com/November 29th).

The main competitor for the Dallas Cowboys is considered to be the Seattle Seahawks. They are a 7-3-1 team that suffered a nine-point loss in Week 12. However, the Seahawks look very good to make the post-season as they are three games clear in their division.
