Ronda Rousey makes her long awaited return to the UFC as her next fight has been announced for December 30th in Las Vegas. Rousey will face off with the newly crowned UFC women’s Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (13-4) of a main event forUFC 207 at the T-Mobile Arena UFC president Dana White announced on Wednesday. Rousey’s aura of invincibility was shattered in her last outing as she was knocked out by former women’s boxing champion Holly Holm in Australia last November, which sent Rousey to a long hiatus from competition.

Ronda Rousey hiatus from UFC

After her shocking defeat to Holly Holm, Rousey wanted time away from the UFC and during her hiatus filmed a movie and made appearances on “Ellen” and "Saturday Night Live.” Holly Holm would subsequently lose her title to Meisha Tate after refusing to wait for a Rousey rematch.

Tate would suffer the same fate as she was upset by Nunes this past July at UFC 200 also at the T-Mobile Arena.

Rousey (12-1) has been in the gym training since August and looks to bounce back stronger and assuring a victory on December 30 which would regain the title belt she initially lost to Holly Holm. Despite her absence from the sport and Conor McGregor posting three of the top five pay per view cards in the UFC’s history, Dana White still feels that Rousey is the promotion’s brightest star.

“Everyone is a good matchup for Ronda,” White told the LA Times.

“Ronda had a bad loss, lost her title, but she’s still Ronda Rousey at the end of the day,” White said.

Ronda Rousey vs Cris Cyborg fight in the works

Of course many UFC fans are wondering if the long awaited bout between Rousey and Cris Cyborg will happen, now that Rousey has decided to return. Dana White maintains that the Rousey vs Cyborg fight is in the works and that Rousey will look to regain her title before deciding on anything else.

The UFC recently signed Cyborg to a deal and she’s won her first two fights by knockout with the promotion. White of course expects the fight to happen if Rousey can regain her title in what could be the biggest blockbuster fight to date for the UFC.
