Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche took this game in overtime when Gabriel Landeskog tipped the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury. It was an interesting contest that saw multiple goals disallowed after video review. Four of the seven goals scored in the game came in the first period. The Pittsburgh Penguins jumped out to a two goal advantage, but the Avalanche came back to tie it up before the first intermission.

Trevor Daley would give the home side the lead in the third period with his first of the season, but once again the Avalanche answered back. Landeskog tied it with six minutes left, and then scored the winner 22 seconds into overtime.

New York Rangers vs. San Jose Sharks

This one was closer than it appears on the score sheet, as the New York Rangers won by a final score of 7-4. The Rangers had a 5-2 lead in the third period thanks to goals from Kevin Hayes and Jimmy Vesey, however, the San Jose Sharks came back with two goals of their own to make it a 5-4 contest. After pulling the goalie, the Rangers took full advantage and netted two empty net goals to seal the victory.

Joe Pavelski had a huge night for the Sharks, as he was involved with all four goals, and finished with three assists and one goal. Brent Burns contributed two goals as well. Seven different players scored for the Rangers, with Mats Zuccarello leading the way with three points.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators

It was a happy night at Joe Louis Arena, as the farewell season begins at the longtime home of the Detroit Red Wings. The home team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and never looked back.

Mike Green recorded a hat-trick with two goals in the first and one in the third period. Darren Helm also had a big night with two goals to his name. Newcomer Thomas Vanek contributed three assists.

Boston Bruins vs. Winnipeg Jets

After going down midway through the first period, the Boston Bruins came back to score four answered goals to claim a 4-1 win on the road.

Blake Wheeler scored the opening goal for the Winnipeg Jets, but Dominic Moore tied it just 19 seconds later. David Pastrnak netted the only goal of the second period, which proved to be the game winner. Brandon Carlo and Zdeno Chara added third period goals to seal the deal.
