Amidst the tanking ratings in the NFL, there was a trade in theleagueon Tuesday as reported on by Ian Rapoport. According to the NFL Insider's tweet from very early on Tuesday morning "The #Packers have added depth at RB. They just traded for #KCChiefs RB Knile Davis, source said."

Packers appear to be over-rated

The Green Bay Packers were among the Super Bowl favorites at the start of the season (ie. bet365). They do remain among the top favorites at this point in the season despite the fact that they are just 3-2 to date. Most recently the Packers dropped a 14-point decision to the Dallas Cowboys in a game that Green Bay hosted.

With in-division rivals Minnesota still perfect at 5-0 Green Bay have a large deficit to make up against a quality team in the divisional race.

There are still plenty of weeks remaining in the NFL season, however an early outlook might make Green Bay only look like a Wild Card team. As 4th favorites in ante-post Super Bowl markets (ie. bet365 11/1) I think they could be called over-rated. I see the acquisition of Davis as more of a move to gain traction as opposed to an aggressive move to contend.

Kevin Petra, an NFL writer at, apparently sees the tradeas important following injuries to other Green Bay running backs. "Green Bay was in desperate need of backfield aid," Petra wrote on Tuesday morning.

"Starter Eddie Lacyis dealing with a persistent ankle injury...and won't be practicing Tuesday. James Starksis out four weeks after undergoing knee surgery on Monday."

However, Petra, despite seeming to approve of the decision to acquire Davis, hardly has confidence in the players'ability to be an impact player: "Davis is better than not having a running back at all and can help on special teams."

What's next for Green Bay?

The Packers will remain at home in week 7 of the current NFL season.

The Chicago Bears will be in town for the Thursday-night game in the league, one that starts at 8:25pm ET from Lambeau Field. Playing in the Thursday game doesn't give Davis much time to work in the team's systems ahead of being called to action. That is a stroke of bad luck for the Packers although it is only the Bears that are coming to town.

So far this season Chicago are just 1-5 and they are -42 on point differential. Despite the situation that Green Bay are in with regard to the RBs, they enter week 7 as firm 2/7 favorites to defeat Chicago (BetVictor).
