New York Knicks have something to feel good about

It has been a very long time since the New York Knicks and New York Knicks fans have had something to feel good about. If you're anyone else other than Spike Lee, you haven't had much to cheer about in the Garden since John Starks and Allan Houston were in uniform. Whether it's the Stephon Marbury or the Eddie Curry debacle, there are more than a handful of "what ifs" and "could have been's" to look back on over the course of the last 15 years. Even with the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony a few years ago, the New York Knicks got him when he was already turning the corner in his career and moving toward decline -- not to mention the fiasco that was going on at the time with Amare Stoudemire.

Those two were supposed to be the ones to take the New York Knicks into a new era that just never came to pass.

New York Knicks win home opener in front of fans

Fast forward to this current 2016-2017 season and you've got an entirely new, revamped roster that has rejuvenated Knicks nation in a way that hasn't happened since the mid-90's. While it's true that the roster does have its share of aging but still effective players like Carmelo Anthony, Joakim Noah, and Derrick Rose, the roster also consists of an ever-improving Kristaps Porzingis, and solid, veteran role players like Courtney Lee.

In the game against the visiting Memphis Grizzlies, the talented roster did hint at the possibility of things to come throughout the course of the game.

With the vibrant energy and enthusiasm of their home crowd, the New York Knicks at one point did manage to balloon to an 18-point lead in the first half, ultimately putting the game away with a 111-104 victory over the visiting Grizzlies.

While it's true that it may very well be too early to get overly excited this early in the season, with the New York Knicks sitting at a .500 winning percentage with one win and one loss, it's hard not to want to get caught up in the hype surrounding this team.

Everyone is on the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers bandwagon (with good reason), however, even with all of that said, there is a history and a certain prestige that comes to mind when you think of the New York Knicks, and, even if you're not a Knicks fan, as an overall fan of the game of basketball, there is something special brewing in the Garden this season, and it's hard not to want to get swept up in it all.
