In an early Sunday game, the New York Giants topped the Los Angeles Rams, 17-10. The game was a largely defensive affair, with offenses struggling throughout another London tilt.

The game

Both offenses had a hard time getting going on Sunday. Rams quarterback Case Keenum looked decent in the first quarter, but fell apart for the rest of the game, throwing four interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown by safety Landon Collins) and increasing the call to replace him with this spring's first overall draft pick, Jared Goff. Running back Todd Gurley struggled again for Los Angeles, rushing for just 57 yards on 15 carries.

Despite the victory, the Giants didn't look any better than Los Angeles on offense. Eli Manning completed 24 passes, but accumulated less than 200 yards. Their only offensive touchdown cam on a one-yard rush from Rashad Jennings, who averaged less than two yards per carry on the day. Three different New York receivers caught five passes, but none exceeded 55 receiving yards.

London distractions

Playing in London has often drawn ire from NFL teams and fans, who rightfully believe the extended travel and differing playing surfaces hamper the quality of games. This was the first game at Twickenham Stadium, home of the England National Rugby Team, and while the atmosphere was electric, the play suggested the surface could've been improved.

The situation with Giants kicker Josh Brown provided another distraction, as headlines surrounding his history of domestic abuse was the top NFL story of the week. Brown didn't make the trip with the team and was placed on the commissioner's exempt list-- the Giants instead signed Robbie Gould to a prorated deal for the year.

He knocked his only field goal attempt, in addition to two extra points in his Giants debut.

With the win, the Giants improved to 4-3 on the season, while the Rams dropped to 3-4. New York will enjoy its bye week before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9, while the Rams will also be off for the week before playing the Carolina Panthers.
