The 2016/17 Edmonton Oilersare off to a strong start in the NHL. On Friday night Edmonton played their first game on the road in Calgary, a game that the Oilers won 5-3. The result sees Edmonton open the season with four points in two games while Calgary are still looking for their first positive result in the young NHL season.

Connor McDavid has six points in two games

Connor McDavid, who scored two goals and had one assist in Edmonton a couple nights ago, did more damage against the Flames on Friday. He still tallied three points for the scoring race but on this occasionthe points were assist heavy.

He had one goal and two helpers in Edmonton's victory.

Leon Draisaitl, the 20 year old who made a name for himself last season in Edmonton, scored twice against Calgary and assisted on another goal. One of his goals was an empty netter, while the other came in the early parts of the third period.

Other Oilers that had multi-point nights were Jordan Eberle (1 G, 1 A) and Milan Lucic (2A). The Calgary Flames, on the other hand, had no players turn in a multi-point night.

In the two games combined between the two teams, Edmonton is 2-0-0 while Calgary starts off 0-0-2. Since the Oilers outscored the Flames 12-7 in the two games combined you have to wonder if they will ponder any changes in the games ahead.

What's next for both teams?

The Calgary Flames will play on Saturday night as they will travel to Vancouver to take on the Canucks. The west-coast game is part of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada programming (7pm PT). The Canucks were idle on Friday so they should be the better-rested club in the game. That does give Vancouver a bit of an advantage, especially since the Flames have to mix in travel before game time.

The Oilers do not play on Saturday, but rather they will face the Buffalo Sabresback in downtown Edmonton on Sunday. The Sabres are a team stung by injury news as Jack Eichel's injury update wasn't the greatest. Game time between Edmonton and Buffalo on Sunday is at 5pm MT, which will start a three-game homestand.
