The World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs is shaping up to be an epic affair. The Indians won game 1 in a blowout and were poised to deliver another championship to Cleveland in the same calendar year as the Cavaliers. But the Cubs weren't ready to yield a 2-0 lead and pitcher Jake Arietta put on a masterful performance in game 2 that led to aCubs 5-1 victory.

Arietta's Impressive Performance.

Arrieta shook off past postseason woes and allowed just one run in a no-hit bid for 5.1 innings.

His start was so good that the Cubs never looked back and retained the lead for the entirety of game2.The dominant performance was also aided by the hitting of a very talented Cubs roster that managed to score five runs after failing to score a single run in game 1.

Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber both had two hits and combined for three RBIs. First baseman Anthony Rizzo also managed to drive in a run in the first running, giving the Chicago Cubs an early lead that they would never give away.

Cubs Close The Game.

The Cubs relief pitchers were impressive, but they did have a four run cushion to work with in game 2. Still, it's reassuring for Cubs fans who want to see that their team can finish games and hold onto a lead in the closing innings of a game. That aspect of the game will only get more important when the World Series continues in Chicago over the weekend.

Looking Ahead to Later Games.

Earlier in the day I predicted a Cubs victory, and that prediction came to fruition thanks to star pitcher Jake Arrieta.

Now the Cubs will head home and send out ace pitcher Kyle Hendricks to the mound, who will be looking to lead the Cubs to victory in game 3. Cleveland's pitcher in the game will be Josh Tomlin, who has not performed at a level close to Kendricks all year. It's easy to look at the statistics and immediately grant the Cubs a victory in game 3.

But the scrappy Indians are tough and the Cubs will have to fight to pull out a 5-4 victory in game 3 at Wrigley Field.

For the series, expecta Cubs victory in 7 games.
