When a Tennis player makes steps into a Grand Slam, he or she must be prepared to put up the best possible game. This year`s US Open has had lots of moments of mastery and skill, but yesterday`s match between Simona Halep, the 5th seed, and Timea Babos of Hungary might be the greatest encounter so far at the US Open.

It was a complete match, with both athletes having no second thoughts when all their physical resources were required. The Romanian star though managed somehow to past Babos by a slide in the decisive set. If you want to win a Grand Slam event to pass over your own limits during a match, it`s only the first step.

Highlights of the match

Simona Halephad to walk through well on Arthur Ashe Stadium, but she survived. The first set was pretty much a smooth ride for the Romanian. Timea Babos (34 WTA) who was at her first appearance in a Grand Slam 3rd round in singles felt the pressure in a decisive way. The Hungarian made lots of unforced errors and Halep took advantage winning the opening set by 6-1.

The 2nd act went head to head until the 4th game. Once she settled down her emotions, Babos raised her level, and the pressure shifted to the other side of the net. The Hungarian made quite a run and took the set by 6-2. The decisive set had a heart-stopping unfolding. Babos still had the momentum and at some point, she was leading with 3-1.

Still, SimonaHalep found a way to hold serve, and maybe that was the turning point of the match.

Despite having great results in doubles, for the Hungarian player walking on uncharted territory was too much. She lost her confidence and eventually her groundstrokes started to flow wide. In the end, at 5-4 for Halep, Babos lost her serve with an upsetting double fault which handed the match to the Romanian.

A bigger test in the next round for Halep

In Halep`s quarter of the draw, it is Serena Williams holding the headlines. The American star might be Halep opponent in the quarterfinals. To get there, Simona has to fight hard as she is set to play against Carla Suarez Navarro (12 WTA).

The Spaniard seems to regain her pace at this US Open.

She made some great matches in the previous rounds, and now she`ll fight against Halep for a place in the quarterfinals. So far, on the head to head meetings, Halep and Suarez Navarro faced on ten times and the balance is perfect with both players having won 5 matches each.

These players are on aquite similar level judging by their ability to defend from the back of the tennis court. Moreover, both are in the same type of never-giving-up players fighting against all the odds.
