The "Players Tribune reported that Paul Pierce will retire soon. “This is it. My final season,” Paul Pierce said when he told the world that he was going to retire at the end of the upcoming season. He will be joining the list of Hall of Famers from his generation. (Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett have all retired since the end of last season.)

Hall of Fame shoo-in

A shoo-in will be conductedat the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, where Paul Pierce will go down as one of the greatest players of his generation. A champion with the 2007-08 Boston Celtics, Paul Pierce is a 10-time All-Star, and one-time Finals MVP (2008.) His uncanny ability to score at will (as clutch as they come,) while also making his teammates better, allowed him to be one of the greatest small forwards to play the game.

His 22,591 points are second behind only John Havlicek on the Boston Celtics All-Time scoring list. Pierce made the All-NBA third team 3 times (2001-02, 2002-03, 2007-08,) and the All-NBA second team one time (2008-09.) Through the 18 years he’s played, Paul Pierce averaged 20.6 points per gamewhile hauling in 5.7 rebounds a night.

Persistence and loyalty paid off

“The Truth” as he is known, stuck with the green and white despite going through hard times. During a period when other Superstars decided to jump ship, Paul Pierce chose to stay put. His persistence and loyalty ultimately paid off when the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, forming the “Big Three.” It was with them that he was able to climb the top of the mountain and obtain basketball glory.

Now as he enters the final season of an illustrious career, Paul Pierce looks to go out on top, and soak in all that he can, while in doing so. The "Players Tribune" wrotethat Pierce said, "After 18 NBA years, it’s hard to believe I’ll be playing in each arena for the last time. So I’m going to enjoy every practice, every bus ride, every team dinner, every time running out through the tunnel.

I’m going to do my part to give us a shot at the ultimate goal."
