Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess has been nothing short of amazing this offseason. His training camp has included spectacular catches, crisp cuts, and increased chemistry with Cam Newton. All those things have led to the declaration of Devin Funchess as MVP by ESPN's David Newton. And that means Funchess is truly primed for a breakout year.

Training Camp and Preseason Performances.

Devin Funchess has had no trouble getting behind the Panthers defense and making deep catches. Some of those grabs were on display in day 12 of training camp, and the Panthers official Twitter let us know about it.

Those are some impressive catches! And those are coming against a Panthers defense that was one of the best in the NFL last season. Funchess has recorded at least one touchdown catch in each of his last three practices, according to ESPN's David Newton. But training camp isn't the only place where Funchess has made an impact so far.

In his first preseason game, Funchess made an amazing corner grab on a throw from Derek Anderson. Here's the video of Devin Funchess making the catch.

On the play, Funchess uses his size to box out the defender and take advantage of the clear mismatch.

At 6 foot 4, the Panthers receiveris a matchup nightmare for basically every corner in the NFL. Funchess appears ready to use that size to his advantage in 2016, something that he couldn't do as effectively in 2015.

Rookie Year.

Funchess had 31 catches, 473 receiving yards, and five touchdowns in 2015.

Those numbers were a little bit disappointing for a player drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. Funchess was still managed to be the fifth most productive rookie wide receiver in franchise history, despite the weaker numbers. The Panthers were relying on Funchess to deliver production after Kelvin Benjamin went down with a torn ACL.

Unfortunately, Funchess could not deliver. The Panthers used a mixture of wide receiver production and Devinfailed toemerge as the best receiver in the offense. Now it looks like Funchess could finally be ready to take on a bigger role and become one of Cam Newton's favorite targets within the Panthers offense.
