Victoria Azarenka is one of the most prominentTennis players in theWTA circuit. With a career highest peak a couple of years ago when she also became the WTA leader, Azarenka still remains one of the fewest players able to outshine Serena Williams on the tennis court. The 27-years-old Belarusian will take a break from the WTA tour due to some new developments. Yesterday, on her social media account she made an unexpected announcement- she is carrying a child and will give birth at the end of 2016. As expected, her professional career will be put on hold for the rest of the season.

Azarenka has been through a serious struggle.

In 2014, Azarenka was forced to withdraw from the WTA tour due to some injuries. From that point on, it started a long battle to get herself back on the right path. Shesaw her ranking plunging way down, but in the second half of 2015 there were some signs of improvement. By the end of 2015, she climbed back into the top 20. Further, in 2016 she had an extraordinary run winning both Indian Wells and Miami events.

It was a surreal achievement judging by the fact that only two other players won these events in the same season, namely Steffi Graf and Kim Clijsters. Her ranking went up reaching the WTA top 5. Then she moved onto the European clay season but the good results did not showup. Some knee related injuryforced her to miss lots of events. She withdrew from Roland Garros and later from Wimbledon Championships.
