With the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil just a few week away, the U.S. men's Basketball team is looking to take home the gold again like they did four years earlier at the 2012 Olympics in London when they beat Spain 107-100.

What to Expect

This year's roster includes popular and familiar names from the NBA, such as New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony, Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, Golden State Warriors small forward Kevin Durant, and Warriors shooting Klay Thompson, just to name a few.

At the helm of the US squad is Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski, his third time doing so, along with a string of assistant coaches, like Syracuse Orange head coach Jim Boeheim, current Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau, and former Oklahoma City Thunder associate head coach Monty Williams.

Getting the team together and finalized was somewhat of a struggle because players, such as Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James and Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, have backed out from the competition to rest their bodies or recover from injuries.

It has been said that no one backed out because of the ongoing problem with the Zika virus that is currently a problem in Brazil, but there is some speculation to that.

Team on the Rise

The finalized 12 man roster has already started their exhibition series, starting with an 111-74 defeat against Argentina on Friday at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The highlights of that game were Durant's 23 point performance and Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins 15 rebounds.

The USA's next contest was against the Chinese national team at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Sunday.

The final result was a dominating 106-57 victory for Team USA, a 49 point difference. Some of the highlights came from the hands of Jordan, who scored the first points of the game on an alley-oop from Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry.

He finished the night with 12 points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists, and two steals in 17 minutes on the court.

The biggest performance of the night came from none other than Durant, who again came out as the leading scorer with 19 points in 18 minutes of playing time.

During the course of the game, China turned the ball over 26 times and only two players shot 50 percent from the floor. Pointwise, an 18 point performance from former NBA power forward Yi Jianlian The USA and China will square off again in a rematch on Tuesday.

Competition

This year's Olympic team has been the subject of competition to a lot of their upcoming opponents.

Even though it's only an exhibition series happening right now, the US has showed why they are more powerful than everyone else.

The US will start off the Olympic competition against non-other China, followed by games against Venezuela, Australia, Serbia, and France respectively. If the US win the gold medal at this year's Olympics, it will be the third time in a row and 15th overall win for the country.

Overall, the team looks good from their performance, despite some of the earlier setbacks this year. With strong play and under Coach K's guidance, team USA should have the ability to bring home the gold.
