Prior to Wimbledon women`s singles final, there were lots of questions regarding the outcome. Serena Williams faced Angelique Kerber, with the German player having the moral leverage. Back in January, Kerber surprisinglywon her first Grand Slam title by beating Serena in straight sets in the final. In 2016, Williams won just one title in Rome. But at Wimbledon, she came on the right track and put in an amazing display of Tennis.

Eventually, she won her 7th Wimbledon and the 22nd of the career equaling Steffi Graff`s record. Wimbledon seemed an easy win, but there were many bumps in the first half of the season.

Total success at Wimbledon.

By winning Wimbledon Championships, Serena Williams once again puts a serious distance between her place and the second one in the ranking. Angelique Kerber ( 2 WTA) has to fill up 1800 points deficit.

Serena`s success also extended on the doubles. The pairing with her sister Venus was also fruitful. Williams sisters won the double contest in straight sets. That amount of success could not be better, especially in a time when her dominance over the WTA circuit was seriously threatened. For those seeking for a new `rainmaker` in the WTA tour, Wimbledon was nothing more than a jolt. Moreover, Serena has booked herself a spot in the WTA Finals at Singapore. With over 6200 points in her pocket, she has certainly met the qualifying criteria.

Overall results so far.

In 2016, despite winning only two events, namely the one in Rome and the most recent one at Wimbledon, Serena had some worth mentioning results. She played all three Grand Slams finals, losing the first two at Australian Open and Roland Garros. Due to some injuries and perhaps her age, she only appeared on 8 WTA events, three of them being Majors. Still, she gathered more than 6000 points with only 8 events in which she played.

Overall, she won 31 matches losing only 4. According to the WTA official site, Serena remains a rock solid player with a huge service game. According to the stats, in 2016, Serena served 260 aces and won 82 % of her service game. That means a lot for the WTA circuit. Those figures are most likely fit for the ATP circuit.
